Ceronia Hall – Χαρουπόμυλος Λανίτη, Λεμεσός
Έγινε κιόλας 20 χρονών, και προχωρά με δυναμική ματιά στο μέλλον. Είναι το Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ Λεμεσού – ένας από τους παλαιότερους φεστιβαλικούς θεσμούς, τους πλέον επιτυχημένους στην πόλη της Λεμεσού αλλά και σε ολόκληρη την Κύπρο. Και αυτά είναι τα 24 ντοκιμαντέρ που θα παρακολουθήσουμε στη διάρκεια της φετινής επετειακής διοργάνωσης, που θα διεξαχθεί από την 1η μέχρι και τις 8 Αυγούστου, 2025 στο Ceronia Hall – Χαρουπόμυλος Λανίτη.
Πολυβραβευμένες ταινίες από διακεκριμένους σκηνοθέτες, πρωτοεμφανιζόμενα ταλέντα από το διεθνές στερέωμα αλλά και ταινίες από Κύπριους δημιουργούς συνθέτουν το φετινό πρόγραμμα προβολών. Με επίκαιρα θέματα που αντικατοπτρίζουν τη σύγχρονη παγκόσμια πραγματικότητα, και κινηματογραφικές αφηγήσεις που αφυπνίζουν τον θεατή και τις αισθήσεις του, το Φεστιβάλ παρουσιάζει φέτος τα παρακάτω ντοκιμαντέρ:
Γυναίκες και πολιτική ζωή: επίμαχες προσωπικότητες
Η κωμικός Noam Shuster-Eliassi παρουσιάζει ένα μοναδικό προσωπικό και πολιτικό σόλο σόου, εστιάζοντας στον αγώνα για ισότητα ανάμεσα σε Ισραήλ και Παλαιστίνη, στο πολυβραβευμένο Coexistance, My Ass!, που σκηνοθέτησε η Amber Fares. Η ταινία απέσπασε πληθώρα βραβείων ανάμεσα στα οποία το Ειδικό Βραβείο Επιτροπής για Ελευθερία της Έκφρασης στο φετινό φεστιβάλ Sundance, τον Χρυσό Αλέξανδρο Καλύτερου Ντοκιμαντέρ και το Βραβείο «Ηuman Rights in Motion» στο φετινό Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ Θεσσαλονίκης.
Ως η πρώτη εκλεγμένη σύμβουλος στο χωριό της στο Ιράν, η Sara Shahverdi σκοπεύει να σπάσει τις πατριαρχικές παραδόσεις, εκπαιδεύοντας έφηβες κοπέλες να οδηγούν μοτοσυκλέτα, και βάζοντας τέλος στους γάμους ανηλίκων. Το ντοκιμαντέρ Cutting Through Rocks, σε σκηνοθεσία Mohammadreza Eyni και Sara Khaki απέσπασε, ανάμεσα σε άλλα, το Μεγάλο Βραβείο Επιτροπής στο φετινό φεστιβάλ Sundance.
Η Leni Riefenstahl θεωρείται μία από τις πιο αμφιλεγόμενες προσωπικότητες του 20ού αιώνα, τόσο ως καλλιτέχνης όσο και ως προπαγανδίστρια του ναζισμού. Σήμερα, η αισθητική της είναι πιο παρούσα από ποτέ – αλλά τι ισχύει για τα μηνύματα που αυτή υπονοεί; Το ντοκιμαντέρ Riefenstahl, το οποίο υπογράφει ο Andres Veiel, εξετάζει το ερώτημα μέσα από σπάνια ντοκουμέντα από το προσωπικό της αρχείο.
Αποαποικιοποίηση των Αφηγήσεων
Στο How to Build a Library των Maia Lekow και Christopher King η Shiro και η Wachuka προσπαθούν να μεταμορφώσουν μια ερειπωμένη και γεμάτη σκουπίδια βιβλιοθήκη στο κέντρο του Ναϊρόμπι σε έναν ζωντανό κόμβο πολιτισμού και δημιουργίας για τους κατοίκους της πόλης. Μετά την προβολή, θα ακολουθήσει συζήτηση για το πώς η Λεμεσός μπορεί να αναδείξει τις διαφορετικές πολιτιστικές αφηγήσεις, ιστορίες και φωνές της πόλης για τον τίτλο της Πολιτιστικής Πρωτεύουσας της Ευρώπης 2030, αντλώντας έμπνευση από το ταξίδι της ταινίας για την αποαποικιοποίηση της γνώσης και την ανάδειξη κρυμμένων φωνών. Την προβολή στηρίζει το Λεμεσός 2030.
ΑμεΑ – Άνθρωποι με Αξιοπρέπεια
Το Life After – που απέσπασε το Ειδικό Βραβείο Επιτροπής στο Sundance για αμερικανικό ντοκιμαντέρ – είναι μια συγκλονιστική προσωπική διερεύνηση που εκθέτει τα ηθικά διλήμματα και τα κίνητρα απόκτησης κέρδους σε σχέση με την ευθανασία. Ο Reid Davenport, σκηνοθέτης με αναπηρία, αποκαλύπτει τη σοκαριστική κατάχρηση εξουσίας ενώ ενισχύει τις φωνές ατόμων με αναπηρία, που παλεύουν για δικαιοσύνη και αξιοπρέπεια, σε ένα ζήτημα ζωής και θανάτου.
Το 1987 η Marlee Matlin έγινε η πρώτη κωφή ηθοποιός που κέρδισε Όσκαρ για την ερμηνεία της στην ταινία Παιδιά ενός κατώτερου θεού και βρέθηκε ξαφνικά στο επίκεντρο της δημοσιότητας σε ηλικία μόλις 21 ετών. Αναλογιζόμενη τη ζωή της στη μητρική της γλώσσα, την Αμερικανική Νοηματική, η Matlin εξερευνά τις πολυπλοκότητες του να είσαι πρωτοπόρος. Η ταινία της Shoshannah Stern, Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore, καταγράφει την ιλιγγιώδη και συχνά ταραχώδη άνοδο της φήμης της. Από τη μία στιγμή στην άλλη, έγινε για πολλούς Αμερικανούς η πρώτη κωφή προσωπικότητα που είδαν ποτέ στην τηλεόραση και η άτυπη εκπρόσωπος της κοινότητας των κωφών.
Eπικίνδυνες ζώνες
Από το 2004 έως το 2007, το αμερικανικό ριάλιτι σόου To Catch a Predator, και ο παρουσιαστής του Chris Hansen διασκέδασαν τους τηλεθεατές παρασύροντας άνδρες παιδόφιλους στο φως της δημοσιότητας, με σκοπό να προκαλέσουν τη σύλληψή τους. Μια συγκλονιστική εξερεύνηση της ανόδου και της θεαματικής πτώσης της αμφιλεγόμενης τηλεοπτικής σειράς και του κόσμου που δημιούργησε στο ανατρεπτικό Predators του David Osit.
Το προσωπικό ντοκιμαντέρ του Ewan Waddel με τίτλο Τhe Longer You Bleed, ακολουθεί εκτοπισμένους Ουκρανούς καθώς έρχονται αντιμέτωποι με τη σουρρεαλιστική συνθήκη της εμπειρίας του να παρακολουθούν την πατρίδα τους να φλέγεται σε πραγματικό χρόνο μέσα από το Instagram. Γυρισμένη στη διάρκεια ενός έτους, η ταινία ακολουθεί μια ομάδα εκτοπισμένων Ουκρανών, οι οποίοι παρότι βρίσκονται μακριά από τον πόλεμο, βυθίζονται συναισθηματικά στο τραύμα του, καθώς κατακλύζονται από αλλεπάλληλες εικόνες στο διαδίκτυο.
Το Unwelcomed, σε σκηνοθεσία Amilcar Infante και Sebastian Gonzalez Mendez από τη Χιλή, μάς τοποθετεί στο επίκεντρο διαμαρτυριών κατά των μεταναστών ενώ ακολουθεί τη μεταναστευτική κρίση της Λατινικής Αμερικής μέσα από τις Άνδεις, την Έρημο Ατακάμα και την ακτή, αποτυπώνοντας τις εντάσεις καθώς οι Βενεζουελάνοι αναζητούν νέες πατρίδες. Το ντοκιμαντέρ απέσπασε το βραβείο ανερχόμενου διεθνούς δημιουργού στο Hοt Docs του Καναδά.
Zητήματα επιβίωσης και ταυτότητας
Στο Welded Together, σε σκηνοθεσία της Anastasiya Miroshnichenko, η ζωή της Κatya ως συγκολλήτρια είναι ένας καθημερινός αγώνας, μα η πραγματική μάχη κρύβεται μέσα της. Καθώς παλεύει να συγκολλήσει τα σπασμένα κομμάτια του παρελθόντος της, έρχεται αντιμέτωπη με μια σκληρή αλήθεια, και προσπαθεί να προστατέψει τη μικρή της αδερφή από μια τραγική μοίρα, ελπίζοντας σε ένα καλύτερο μέλλον και για τις δυό τους.
To Ι, Poppy του Vivek Chaudhary από την Ινδία, επικεντρώνεται στην Vardibai, μια ηλικιωμένη καλλιεργήτρια παπαρούνας, και στον Mangilal, τον γιο της, που αγωνίζεται κατά της πολιτικής διαφθοράς που επηρεάζει την κοινότητά τους.
Καταγράφοντας τις διαφορετικές πορείες δύο εμβληματικών πρωτοπόρων, της April Ashley και της Amanda Lear, η διακεκριμένη σκηνοθέτρια Zackary Drucker διερευνά ζητήματα ταυτότητας και επιβίωσης στο Enigma, φέρνοντας στο φως τις παράλληλες αλλά και αλληλένδετες ιστορίες δύο γυναικών που σημάδεψαν την ιστορία και την κουλτούρα των τρανς ατόμων.
Εικόνες σαν ποίηση
Φτιαγμένο αποκλειστικά από υλικό αρχείου, το ντοκιμαντέρ Τrains, του πολυβραβευμένου Πολωνού σκηνοθέτη Maciej Drygas ο οποίος θα παρευρεθεί στο Φεστιβάλ στην Κύπρο, σκιαγραφεί ένα πορτραίτο της Ευρώπης του 20ου αιώνα. Καταγράφοντας περαστικούς σε σταθμούς τρένων, ψηλαφεί τις ελπίδες, τους πόθους, το δράμα και την τραγωδία του περασμένου αιώνα. Το ντοκιμαντέρ απέσπασε το Βραβείο Καλύτερου Ντοκιμαντέρ και το Βραβείο Μοντάζ στο φετινό Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ του Άμστερνταμ (IDFA).
Στο βραβευμένο με το Μεγάλο Βραβείο του CPH:DOX, Always, του Deming Chen, ένα νεαρό αγόρι σε ένα ορεινό χωριό της Κίνας, ανακαλύπτει τη δύναμη της ποίησης.
Σύγχρονη Ελλάδα στο σινεμά του πραγματικού
Η Ολυμπιονίκης Σοφία Μπεκατώρου που πυροδότησε το κίνημα #MeToo στην Ελλάδα δίνει τη δύναμη σε μια νεότερη αθλήτρια να σπάσει τη δική της σιωπή. Σε μια δίκη-ορόσημο, η Σοφία στέκεται στο πλευρό της Αμαλίας, η οποία αποφασίζει να καταγγείλει τον πρώην προπονητή της για τη συστηματική κακοποίηση που υπέστη από εκείνον όταν ήταν παιδί. Το ντοκιμαντέρ Tack θα προβληθεί παρουσία της σκηνοθέτριας, Βάνιας Τέρνερ.
Τα τελευταία 50 χρόνια η Μύκονος έχει υποστεί ριζικές αλλαγές. Κάποτε ήταν ένα φθηνό νησί, σήμερα είναι πανάκριβο· άγνωστος προορισμός, σήμερα τόπος έλξης παγκοσμίως· σύμβολο ελευθεριότητας, σήμερα κοινωνικών αποκλεισμών. Πώς κατάφερε ένα μικρό νησί να αφομοιώσει σε τόσο μικρό χρονικό διάστημα τόσες διαφορετικές εμπειρίες; Το ντοκιμαντέρ του Steve Krikris, Super Paradise, επιχειρεί να απαντήσει σε αυτά τα ερωτήματα.
Ποιητικοί, δραματικοί, αστείοι, παιδιά του MTV με φόντο την Κέρκυρα, οι Κόρε. Ύδρο. απασχόλησαν όσο λίγες μπάντες την ελληνική indie ποπ/ροκ σκηνή, εισπράττοντας λατρεία αλλά και χλευασμό. Το ντοκιμαντέρ Εδώ Μιλάνε για Λατρεία του Βύρωνα Κριτζά, ακολουθεί την πορεία τους εστιάζοντας στα δύο βασικά μέλη, αλλά και στη σημασία τού να είναι κανείς ιδιαίτερος χωρίς να ντρέπεται γι’ αυτό.
Παρόντες στο Φεστιβάλ οι Κύπριοι δημιουργοί για να παρουσιάσουν τα φετινά τους έργα
Στο πειραματικό Waves Won’t Stop, σε σκηνοθεσία Ιωάννη Παπαλοΐζου και παραγωγή Χάρη Μαυρομιχάλη, ο αφηγητής ανασύρει τις παιδικές του μνήμες από την Κύπρο και μια ανεξίτηλη φιλία που σημαδεύτηκε από τον αποχωρισμό. Αναπολώντας καθοριστικές στιγμές της ζωής του, συλλογίζεται έννοιες όπως η επιθυμία και η αίσθηση του ανήκειν.
Η ταινία Σύμπραξη: Ανάμεσα σε Αγγεία -το πρώτο από δύο ντοκιμαντέρ της εικαστικού-σκηνοθέτριας Χριστίνας Σκαρπάρη που θα προβληθούν- βασίζεται σε μακροχρόνια, βιωματική έρευνα και συνεχή κοινοτική εμπλοκή. Τοποθετημένη στον Κόρνο, ιχνηλατεί την απειλούμενη τέχνη της αγγειοπλαστικής κόκκινου πηλού, ακολουθώντας τους ρυθμούς της ζωής των αγγειοπλαστριών. Μέσα από ένα φεμινιστικό φακό φροντίδας, η Σκαρπάρη διερευνά ζητήματα ταυτότητας, εργασίας και ανήκειν, αναδεικνύοντας τη συχνά αόρατη, διαγενεακή εργασία των γυναικών που συντηρούν πολιτιστικά οικοσυστήματα.
Το ντοκιμαντέρ αγρέλια, όποιος θέλει, όποιος του αρέσκει είναι μια οικεία κινηματογραφική εκδρομή που παρακολουθεί τη σταδιακή διαμόρφωση της σχέσης μεταξύ της εικαστικού-σκηνοθέτριας Χριστίνας Σκαρπάρη και του συλλέκτη-χειροτέχνη Περικλή Γαβριήλ κατά το μάζεμα των αγρελιών. Τοποθετημένη στην κυπριακή ύπαιθρο της επαρχίας Λάρνακας, η ταινία αντιστέκεται στην εξαγωγική λογική της τεκμηρίωσης, προσφέροντας ένα κοινό ταξίδι που διαμορφώνεται από εμπιστοσύνη, αμοιβαιότητα και φροντίδα.
Το ντοκιμαντέρ Tastes in Plates; Getting together with Neighbours της Στέλλας Γεωργίου, μάς τοποθετεί στη συντροφιά ενός τραπεζιού όπου οι γείτονες μαζεύονται για να μοιραστούν μεσογειακές γεύσεις με την καλλιτέχνιδα.
Σ’ έναν κόσμο όπου η γονεϊκότητα βιώνεται περισσότερο ως βάρος αντί ως δικαίωμα, έχουμε οικοδομήσει ένα σύστημα που μοιάζει – και συχνά είναι – μη βιώσιμο, οικονομικά εξουθενωτικό και βαθιά άνισο για τους γονείς. Το Μάμμα δίνει φωνή στην ωμή πραγματικότητα της μητρότητας στην Κύπρο. Μέσα από προσωπικές εμπειρίες γυναικών και τη συμβολή ειδικών, φέρνει στην επιφάνεια τις κοινωνικές, οικονομικές και δομικές προκλήσεις που αντιμετωπίζουν οι μητέρες, αναδεικνύοντας ένα ξεκάθαρο αίτημα για ουσιαστική, συστημική αλλαγή. Η ταινία αποτελεί μια παραγωγή του FILMHOUSE PICTURES και RESET CY, σε σκηνοθεσία Χρίστου Κουτούλα και Χαράς Πιτσιλλίδου.
Eιδική Προβολή: Forensic Architecture
Σε συνεργασία με το The Island Club θα προβληθούν τρία έργα του Forensic Architecture: The Pylos Shipwreck, When it Stopped Being a War: The Situated Testimony of Dr Ghassan Abu Sittah και Return to Al-Main, που άπτονται της θεματικής του εκτοπισμού και της προσφυγοποίησης.
Το Forensic Architecture είναι ένας ερευνητικός οργανισμός με βάση του το Goldsmiths, Πανεπιστήμιο του Λονδίνου. Κύριο έργο του είναι η ανάπτυξη, και διάχυση νέων τεχνικών, μεθόδων και εννοιών για διερεύνηση κρατικής και εταιρικής βίας.

24 ground breaking documentaries coming up in the
20th festival anniversary edition
1 – 8 August, 2025
Ceronia Hall – Lanitis Carob Mill, Limassol
Already in its twentieth edition, the Lemesos International Documentary Festival looks ahead into the future. It is one of the oldest and most successful festivals in in the city of Limassol and across Cyprus. And here are the 24 documentaries showing in its upcoming 20th anniversary edition, which will take place 1 – 8 August 2025, at Ceronia Hall – Lanitis Carob Mill, in the old town of Limassol.
The programme comprises of multi-award-winning films by acclaimed directors, emerging international talent and Cypriot filmmakers. Driven by their immersive gaze, this year’s documentaries propose new cinematic approaches, and deal with significant current issues.
Women and politics: controversial personalities
Noam Shuster-Eliassi grew up the literal poster child for the Israeli-Palestinian peace process before making a hard pivot to stand-up comedy and political satire. But as the region sinks deeper into devastating violence, she must meet the moment by challenging her audiences with hard truths that are no laughing matter in Coexistance, My Ass!, directed by Amber Fares. The film scooped the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for Freedom of Expression at Sundance 2025, the Golden Alexander for Best Documentary, and the “Human Rights in Motion” Award at this year’s Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival.
As the first elected councilwoman of her Iranian village, Sara Shahverdi aims to break long-held patriarchal traditions by training teenage girls to ride motorcycles and stopping child marriages. When accusations arise questioning Sara’s intentions to empower the girls, her identity is put in turmoil. Cutting Through Rocks, directed by Mohammadreza Eyni and Sara Khaki was awarded among other honors, the Grand Jury Prize for World Cinema – Documentary at Sundance.
Leni Riefenstahl is considered one of the most controversial women of the 20th century as an artist and a Nazi propagandist. Riefenstahl’s aesthetics are more prevalent today than ever—but does the same hold true for their underlying message? Riefenstahl, directed by Andres Veiel, examines this question using documents from Riefenstahl’s estate, including private films, photos, recordings, and letters.
Decolonizing Narratives
Ιn How to Build a Library by Maia Lekow and Christopher King, Shiro and Wachuka decide to transform what used to be a whites-only library until 1958 into a vibrant cultural hub. Along the way, they must navigate local politics, raise millions for the rebuild, and confront the lingering ghosts of Kenya’s colonial past. Following the screening, we will explore how Lemesos can celebrate its diverse cultural narratives and untold stories for the European Capital of Culture 2030 bid, drawing inspiration from the film’s powerful journey to decolonize knowledge and embrace hidden voices. The screening is held in collaboration with Lemesos2030.
On Human Dignity
Winner of U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award, Life After – is a gripping personal investigation that exposes the tangled web of moral dilemmas and profit motives surrounding assisted dying. Disabled filmmaker Reid Davenport uncovers shocking abuses of power while amplifying the voices of the disability community fighting for justice and dignity in an unfolding matter of life and death.
In 1987, Marlee Matlin becomes the first deaf actor to win an Academy Award for her performance in Children of a Lesser God. Catapulted into the spotlight, she challenges an industry that’s unprepared for her immense talent, emerging as a trailblazing actress, author and activist. Reflecting on Matlin’s life in her primary language of American Sign Language, Shoshannah Stern’s documentary Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore, explores the complexities of what it means to be a trailblazer.
Within Dangerous zones
Between 2004 and 2007, To Catch a Predator was a popular television show designed to hunt down child predators and lure them to a film set, where they would be interviewed and eventually arrested. Predators by David Osit is a surprising exploration of the rise and staggering fall of the show – and the world it helped create.
Ewan Waddel’s personal documentary titled, Τhe Longer You Bleed, follows displaced Ukrainians as they contend with the surreal experience of watching their homeland burn through Instagram in real time. Filmed over a year, the camera follows the director’s partner and her friends, who, though far from the war, remain deeply entangled in its emotional fallout, navigating their new reality of traumatic war imagery online.
Amid Chile’s anti-migrant protests, Chilean documentary Unwelcomed, directed by Amilcar Infante and Sebastian Gonzalez Mendez follows Latin America’s migration crisis through the Andes, Atacama Desert, and coast, showing tensions as Venezuelans seek new homes. The film won the Hot Docs Emerging International Filmmaker Award.
Οn survival and identity
In Welded Together, directed by Anastasiya Miroshnichenko, a young welder’s solitary life changes when she must care for her half-sister, forcing her to confront childhood trauma and choose between personal dreams and newfound family bonds.
Ιndian documentary Ι, Poppy by Vivek Chaudhary centres on Vardibai, an elderly poppy farmer, and Mangilal, her son who is an active political campaigner against corruption that impacts the livelihood of the community.
Chronicling the divergent paths of iconic pioneers April Ashley and Amanda Lear, acclaimed filmmaker Zackary Drucker explores questions of identity and survival in Enigma, revealing the disparate but intertwined stories of women whose lives helped shape trans culture and history.
Documentary poetry
Made up entirely of archive footage, Trains by Polish director Maciej Drygas who will be attending the Festival in Limassol, paints a portrait of twentieth-century Europe. By capturing passers-by in railway stations, it traces all the hopes, desires, dramas and tragedies of the last century. The documentary scooped the IDFA Award for Best Feature-Length Documentary and the IDFA Award for Best Editing.

Two-time Olympic medalist Sofia Bekatorou sparks Greece’s #MeToo movement, inspiring a younger athlete to break her own silence. In a milestone trial, Sofia stands with Amalia, who is seeking justice for the systematic abuse she endured in the hands of her coach when she was a child. Tack by Vania Turner will be screened in the presence of the director.
Over the past 50 years, Mykonos has experienced transformations that test the limits of imagination — it was dirt cheap, today it’s unaffordable; it was “off-the-beaten-track,” today it’s a top destination; it was inclusive, today it’s exclusive. So, what happened? How did a tiny island become a melting pot for such radically divergent experiences? Was it paradise? Is it still? Steve Krikris’s documentary Super Paradise, attempts to give answers to these questions.
Poetic, dramatic, funny, MTV kids in Corfu, Kore. Ydro. occupied the Greek indie pop/rock scene like few bands, receiving both adoration and derision. They Talk About Worship Here, directed by Byron Kritzas, follows their journey, focusing on the two main members, but also on the importance of being special without feeling shameful.
Cypriot filmmakers present at the Festival to showcase their works
In the experimental documentary Waves Won’t Stop, directed by Ioannis Papaloizou and produced by Harry Mavromichalis, the narrator evokes his childhood memories of Cyprus, and his connection to an indelible friendship defined by separation. Through vivid recollections of their lost bond, he explores themes of longing, belonging, and on the enduring pull of his homeland that shaped them both.
Sympraxis: Between Vessels – the first of the two films by Christina Skarpari to be presented at the festival this year- is rooted in long-term, practice-based research and ongoing community engagement. Set in the Cypriot village of Kornos, it traces the endangered craft of red clay pottery while following the rhythms of potters’ lives. Through a feminist lens of care, Skarpari explores notions of identity, labour, and belonging, highlighting the often-unseen, intergenerational labour of women in sustaining cultural ecosystems.
agrelia, as you like it, is an intimate excursion into the unfolding relationship between artist-filmmaker Christina Skarpari and forager-artisan Pericles Gavriel while foraging wild asparagus. Set in the Cypriot countryside οf Larnaca district, the film resists extractivist means of filming, offering a shared journey shaped by trust, reciprocity, and care.
Tastes in Plates; Getting together with Neighbours a documentary by Stella Georgiou, places the viewer at a table where neighbours are gathering to share Mediterranean tastes with the artist.
We’ve built a system where parenting feels – and often is – unsustainable, economically challenging, and deeply unequal for parents. A system so entrenched, it almost feels like it was designed to function this way. Mamma explores the raw and unfiltered reality of motherhood in Cyprus. Through personal experiences of women and expert voices, it reveals the social, economic and structural challenges mothers face, and calls for urgent, systemic change. The film is produced by FILMHOUSE PICTURES and RESET CY and directed by Christos Koutoulas and Chara Pitsillidou.
Special Screening: Forensic Architecture
Three works on the themes of displacement and forced migration by Forensic Architecture will be screened in collaboration with The Island Club: The Pylos Shipwreck, When it Stopped Being a War: The Situated Testimony of Dr Ghassan Abu Sittah and Return to Al-Main.
Forensic Architecture (FA) is a research agency based at Goldsmiths, University of London. FA’s mandate is to develop, employ, and disseminate new techniques, methods, and concepts for investigating state and corporate violence.
